The brief also required the equipment to be quick and easy to set up and to be usable without needing to be removed from the case. Other considerations were to protect the screen from sun glare and also prevent light leakage from the screen during operation for night-time and covert use. The case was to be made in military-approved materials.
When our UK-based design team field tested the prototype, it soon became clear that maintaining the required operating temperature and preventing overheating during long periods of use was going to be a challenge. We therefore undertook further design enhancements.
